In the year 1699, the notorious Captain William Kidd (Charles Laughton) presents himself at the court of King William III. Masquerading as an honorable sea captain, he cleverly convinces the king to grant him a royal commission: escort a treasure galleon from India back to England, protecting it from pirates.
But Kidd’s plan is one of pure treachery. His true goal is to seize the treasure for himself. To crew his ship, he assembles a motley collection of pardoned pirates from London’s prisons, including a man he once left for dead on a reef.
