Yuriy Sarantsev (October 7, 1928 – August 24, 2005) was a prolific and beloved Soviet and Russian actor of film and voice, a true master of his craft who appeared in nearly 100 films and lent his voice to countless others.
A veteran of World War II, Sarantsev became a familiar and welcome presence in Soviet cinema. He is well-known for his role as the heroic Commander Ivan Kern in the pioneering Soviet sci-fi film Planeta Bur (Planet of Storms) (1962), a visually innovative film whose footage was later re-edited by Roger Corman into American B-movies.
His greatest fame and most enduring legacy, however, came from his incredible work as a voice actor. He was one of the most in-demand artists for dubbing foreign films for Soviet audiences and voiced numerous beloved characters in classic Russian animated TV series Dunno on the Moon (1997). His extensive and versatile vocal work cemented his status as one of the most heard and respected actors of his generation in Russia.
