Vladimir Yemelyanov

Vladimir Yemelyanov (June 20, 1911 – July 2, 1975) was a prominent Soviet actor known for his powerful on-screen presence and for portraying strong, authoritative characters in a career that spanned over 40 films.

Yemelyanov became a major star of Soviet cinema in the 1950s. He is well-known for his role as the influential educator Anton Makarenko in the biographical film Road to Life (1955) and as the steadfast commander Kondratyev in the classic World War II drama The Immortal Garrison (1956).

He is also remembered by science-fiction fans for his role as the commander Ilya Vershinin in the pioneering Soviet sci-fi film Planeta Bur (Planet of Storms) (1962), a visually innovative film whose footage was later re-edited by Roger Corman into the American B-movies Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet and Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women. His career was cut short when he died during a film shoot in 1975.
