Paul Harvey

Paul Harvey (September 10, 1882 – December 15, 1955) was a prolific American character actor of stage and screen, a familiar face in nearly 200 films who specialized in portraying dignified and authoritative gentlemen. (He is not to be confused with the famous radio broadcaster of the same name).

A veteran of the Broadway stage, Harvey was a go-to supporting player throughout Hollywood’s Golden Age. He is fondly remembered as the minister who presides over Elizabeth Taylor’s wedding in the classic comedy Father of the Bride (1950) and its sequel, and as the unfortunate businessman whose car is stolen by Humphrey Bogart in the crime drama The Petrified Forest (1935).

His long career included appearing in both the original Broadway and film versions of the screwball classic The Awful Truth. He transitioned seamlessly to the new medium of television in the 1950s, making guest appearances on many of the era’s most popular sitcoms, including I Love Lucy, Father Knows Best, and The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show.
