Kathryn Grayson (February 9, 1922 – February 17, 2010) was an American actress and coloratura soprano whose glorious, opera-trained voice made her one of the reigning queens of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer musical. Signed by the studio in the early 1940s after training as an opera singer from a young age, she quickly rose from supporting parts to leading roles in lavish Technicolor productions. Her soaring vocals graced some of the era’s most beloved films, including Anchors Aweigh (1945), where she starred alongside Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra. She formed a particularly popular on-screen partnership with Howard Keel, with whom she made the classic film versions of Show Boat (1951) and Kiss Me Kate (1953). After her film career, Grayson came full circle by returning to her theatrical roots, starring in stage productions like Camelot and fulfilling her lifelong passion by performing in numerous operas.
