Grandon Rhodes (August 7, 1904 – June 9, 1987) was a prolific American character actor of stage, film, and television, a familiar face for decades who specialized in portraying distinguished, and often stern, professional men.
A veteran of the Broadway stage, Rhodes brought a polished and authoritative demeanor to his more than 200 film and television roles. He was a go-to actor for playing doctors, lawyers, judges, and military officers. His notable film work includes playing the cynical politician Floyd McEvoy in the Oscar-winning classic All the King’s Men (1949) and appearing in the sci-fi creature features Them! (1954) and Earth vs. the Flying Saucers (1956).
He became one of the most ubiquitous faces on television in the 1950s and 60s. He had a recurring role as the town doctor on the classic Western series Bonanza and made seven different guest appearances as various judges and district attorneys on Perry Mason. His reliable presence made him a quintessential authority figure of the era.
