Terry Moore (born January 7, 1929) is a legendary figure of Hollywood’s Golden Age, whose career has spanned over eight decades and more than 70 feature films. Born Helen Luella Koford in Los Angeles, she was a child of the industry, working as a model before making her screen debut at the age of 11 in Maryland (1940). After performing under various stage names like Judy Ford and January Ford, she adopted the moniker Terry Moore in 1948, the same year she signed a pivotal contract with Columbia Pictures.
Moore’s rise to stardom was swift and iconic. In 1949, she was loaned to RKO to star in the adventure classic Mighty Joe Young, a film celebrated for its groundbreaking stop-motion effects by Willis O’Brien and Ray Harryhausen. A pilot herself, Moore served as a key consultant for Leonardo DiCaprio, helping him prepare for his portrayal of Hughes in the 2004 biopic The Aviator.
