Cathy Lewis (December 27, 1916 – November 20, 1968) was a versatile and acclaimed American actress of radio, film, and television, who became one of the most popular and recognizable voices of radio’s Golden Age.
Lewis achieved her greatest fame as the smart and sensible Jane Stacy, the best friend and roommate to the ditzy title character in the hit radio comedy My Friend Irma (1947-1954), a role she also reprised for the first two seasons of the television version. A true radio superstar, she and her husband, actor Elliott Lewis, were known as “Mr. and Mrs. Radio,” and were staples on classic shows like Suspense and The Whistler.
On television, she took on the iconic role of Molly in the 1959 TV adaptation of the classic radio sitcom Fibber McGee and Molly. She is also fondly remembered for her recurring role as Deirdre Thompson, the snooty and overbearing sister of George Baxter, on the popular 1960s sitcom Hazel, cementing her legacy as a brilliant and versatile character actress across multiple mediums.
