Lee Dixon (January 22, 1910 – January 8, 1953) was a talented American actor, singer, and dancer who became a familiar and affable face in Warner Bros. musicals of the 1930s.
A former vaudeville performer, Dixon was known for his energetic tap dancing and easygoing charm. He had prominent roles in several classic Busby Berkeley musicals, including Gold Diggers of 1937 and Ready, Willing and Able (1937), where he famously danced on the keys of a giant typewriter alongside Ruby Keeler. He also had a memorable supporting role as Randy McCall in the John Wayne Western classic, Angel and the Badman (1947).
In addition to his film work, Dixon had a successful career on Broadway. He originated the role of the lovestruck cowboy Will Parker in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s landmark 1943 musical, Oklahoma!, introducing the classic song “Kansas City.” His career was cut short by his untimely death in 1953 at the age of 42.
