A new terror grips Metropolis as a fleet of flying, bird-like robots executes a series of daring jewel heists. The police are powerless against the indestructible machines, which are controlled by a brilliant but twisted inventor from a remote lair.
When the robots target a high-profile jewel exhibition, reporters Clark Kent and Lois Lane are on the scene. Never one to miss a story, the daring Lois stows away inside one of the robots as it makes its escape, determined to find the villain’s hideout. Realizing Lois is in danger, Clark Kent finds the nearest phone booth and transforms into Superman. Following the robot with his X-ray vision, he arrives at the inventor’s fortress just in time to find Lois suspended over a vat of molten metal. This iconic battle against a robot army makes “The Mechanical Monsters” a fan-favorite episode of the classic Fleischer Superman cartoons.
